QCB + Community Happens Here
Jam: 3/9/2024

I can’t believe that I left this off the previous newsletter!

It’s happening again this Saturday, from 12:30-2:30 PM, at Community Happens Here at 6238 Montgomery Rd. in Pleasant Ridge,  It’s also on the QCB calendar on our website: the second Saturday of each month. We had great attendance last time. Join us to share in the fun and music.

Parking is available on Montgomery Rd., on Grand Vista Ave. and at the public parking lot behind Walgreens on Woodmont Ave.

Eastbound Norwood Lateral Closes 3/11/2024

Just a reminder: The eastbound section of the Norwood Lateral will close on Monday, March 11, 2024. It definitely needs work, so in the end, it will be worth the headache for those of us traveling to Leo from the Westside of Cincinnati. But there’s more: the westbound side will be closing too. From WLWT Channel 5 News:

“Starting Monday, March 11, the lateral's eastbound lanes will be closed for 80 days so crews can rehab bridges and resurface the road.

“After that, in early June, the westbound lanes will be shut down.
For both phases, drivers going south on either Interstate 71 or Interstate 75 will be detoured all the way down to Fort Washington Way downtown. Northbound drivers will be detoured all the way up to Ronald Reagan.”

Recycling Guitar Strings

Did you know that guitar strings can be recycled? D’Addario Strings has had a recycling program for a number of years. There was downside though: it required boxing up your old strings and shipping them to D’Addario.

I just found out today, that a number of music stores in our area recycle strings as part of D’Addario’s recycling program. You can find more information and search for participating stores here.

Janice Alvarado informed me last Sunday that the Cincinnati Recycling & Reuse Hub also recycles guitar strings. Since she, and other QCB members, travel to the Hub regularly to recycle other items, the idea occurred to her that we could collect guitar strings at QCB/Leo for recycling at the Hub. I will let you know more about this in a future newsletter, or if you are interested, you could just talk to Janice about it at Leo.

QCB/Leo Coffeehouse Membership

We are keeping our standard annual QCB membership dues at $20.00 for a family, or for a single person plus a guest. Last year, knowing that the pandemic cut into our contingency funds, as we continued to pay overhead expenses with no income, some members donated larger amounts to QCB. We very much appreciate the support of all QCB members at all levels.

We are exploring setting up our website to allow the payment of different levels of dues support.  For now, if you’d like to pay the standard dues, you can pay them online here or by a check at Leo. (We’ve discontinued our P.O. Box, I will have a mailing address in the next newsletter for those who wish to mail their membership dues.)

If you would like to donate more than the $20.00 standard dues, you can do so by check, or through our website. When you get to the page with the box to relay instructions, just note that you are paying a larger amount for your dues.

For visitors who prefer not to become a member, a donation of $5.00 (cash) per person helps us pay the rent for our non-profit organization.  Donations can be slipped in the box at the welcome table outside our performance room, Founders Hall.  If you can’t afford that, pay what you can afford or nothing at all.  We will welcome you to join us either way.

That’s all for this Folknotes, I hope to see you soon at Leo Coffeehouse.
